Practice Competition

ℹ️
This page contains generic information that applies to the current or most recent Regional Championships. Competition-specific details such as dates, registration, and official updates are available on the Regional Championships page. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions!

To help you prepare for the regional championships, we offer a practice competition that simulates the experience of the actual event. This practice event runs on the actual competition platform and includes a set of challenges used in earlier regional championships.

You have multiple attempts available, meaning you can start the same practice competition multiple times whenever you want, allowing you to try different strategies or further familiarize yourself with the platform.

If you are interested in training with the practice competition, please use the link on the competition page for the current regional championship to register your interest. Please note that access is only available a few months before the regional championship takes place.

Onboarding

After we’ve processed your registration, you will receive an email with an invite code to join the practice competition on the competition platform. To join the practice competition, follow these steps:

  1. Visit the competition platform at https://dash.skills53.ch.
  2. If you participated in any previous Skills53 event, log in with your existing account. Otherwise, simply create a new account instead.
  3. Once logged in, navigate to the “Participations” page in the menu, then click the “Participate…” button to proceed.
  4. Enter the invite code you received via email and click “Participate”.
  5. You will be redirected to the specific participation and should have a bright “New Attempt” button available on the top right to start your first attempt. Click said button to proceed.
  6. You will now be shown basic rules regarding platform usage. Carefully read through them, then confirm your understanding with the checkbox and click “Create new attempt” to proceed.
  7. You are now on the attempt page, where you will have to wait a few minutes for the competition platform to get your personalized AWS account ready. Your actual time has not started yet at this point, so do not worry, and simply wait until the instance transitions from “Provisioning” to “Ready”.
  8. Once your instance is ready, you can start your attempt with the “Start Competition” button. When clicked, you will unlock all the tasks and can start working on them. Your time will also start counting from this moment onward.

When you’ve started your attempt, you will have an interface available like this and can start working on the challenges right away:

Platform Overview

Once time is up, your account gets automatically deactivated and wiped, and you will no longer be able to access it. You can, however, start a new attempt by navigating back to the “Participations” page, selecting the practice competition, and clicking the “New Attempt” button again.

If you are facing any issues, do not hesitate to reach out to us.
